Michael Duff's sacking came as a shocking piece of news last Tuesday morning, with just five league games gone in the new campaign. Yet, when you look back at the last six months, perhaps it wasn't quite as surprising as it initially seemed.

It all seems to have unravelled for the 48-year-old since the spring, with just three wins in his last 18 matches in charge, two of which came against last season’s bottom four, and no wins from seven matches across all competitions this term.

These stats will ultimately be pointed out as the main reason for the decision, and whilst the performances on display may have warranted a victory rather than a draw or defeat, football is a results business, and the results simply haven’t done the talking in recent months.
