Wycombe Wanderers table bid for Charlton Athletic defender

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at League One rivals Plymouth Argyle, where he made 40 league appearances and scored three goals as Tom Cleverley's side narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

Mitchell returns to The Valley this summer with just 12 months remaining on his Charlton contract, attracting interest from several third-tier clubs, including Plymouth and Oxford United.

However, a recent report from Cawley has revealed that Wycombe have now submitted a bid in an attempt to bring the towering defender to Adams Park.

The Chairboys looked solid at the back for much of last season, with Anders Hagelskjær and Dan Casey forming a strong partnership. However, after both defenders suffered injuries towards the end of the campaign, performances and results began to tail off.

Michael Duff is now looking to add further strength and depth to his defensive options, and it seems Mitchell is the man he's landed on following an impressive campaign with the Pilgrims.

The fee Wycombe have offered remains undisclosed, while there has been no indication as to whether Charlton have accepted or rejected the proposal.

Should Mitchell complete the move, he would provide the kind of commanding, physical presence at the heart of defence that Wycombe have arguably lacked since Sonny Bradley's departure.

Despite being just 24 years old, he already boasts more than 100 League One appearances, making him a player with both experience and room for further development.
