Ex-Wycombe Wanderers head coach linked with Championship gig

Dodds, 40, was appointed Blues head coach in February 2025, succeeding Matt Bloomfield after he departed Adams Park in favour of a move to Luton Town.

He arrived with an excellent reputation in player development, having helped nurture young talents such as Jude and Jobe Bellingham during his time at Birmingham City and Sunderland, respectively.

Despite this, Dodds' time in HP12 was short and not very sweet, winning just nine of his 31 league games in charge of the Chairboys, which saw him sacked in mid-September and replaced by Michael Duff.

After his sacking at Wycombe, the former Black Cats assistant took three months out of the game before linking up with his predecessor Bloomfield at Oxford United in a move that stunned the Wanderers faithful.

The U's were relegated to League One under the ex-Wycombe duo, with Dodds back in a more natural role as an assistant rather than the head coach.

The Chairboys are set to renew acquaintances with their two former bosses next term, but reports now suggest that Dodds may be headed back to the Championship before then.

According to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, the 40-year-old could be in line for a move back up north with Blackburn Rovers, following their appointment of Tony Mowbray.

The former Wycombe chief worked under Mowbray during his time at Sunderland, and they could be set for a reunion at Ewood Park.

Dodds recently admitted in an interview with A Love Supreme that he's better suited to a role as assistant manager, where he can focus on pure coaching and tactics, so a move to Lancashire under a manager he's previously succeeded under may be a tough gig to refuse.

Rovers finished 20th in the Championship last season, five points clear of the relegation zone, and they will hope that the vastly experienced Mowbray can bring them some stability ahead of the new campaign.
